Further, Sangam Dairy was incorporated as "Sangam Milk Producer Company Limited" under Part IX-A of the Companies Act 1956 on 18-06-2013.[3]

It is the first co-operative milk union in the state of Andhra Pradesh and it is the role model for all milk unions in the state for implementation of input Programs, Breed Development and farmer assistance programs.[2]

It procures milk not only in Guntur district but also from Prakasam district, Chittoor district,[4] West Godavari district[1] and Nellore district.[4]

History

Prior to the formation of Sangam Dairy, local vendors used to be monopolists especially in urban areas of Guntur district as they used to adulterate milk and rural milk producing farmers were not paid reasonable prices. Vendors used to sell milk at unreasonable prices to consumers in Guntur district.

It was started under leadership of Yadlapati Venkatarao.[5] In 1979 Dhulipalla Veeraiah Chowdary was elected as chairman of Sangam Dairy. He has played in crucial role development of Sangam Dairy by bringing thousands of farmers in to cooperative fold and assuring a year-round market for milk at remunerative prices.

Dhulipalla Veeraiah Chowdary was guided by Verghese Kurien and mentored Sangam Dairy in its formative years. He was responsible for projecting Guntur District and Sangam dairy in the milk map of India.[2]

The name Sangam Dairy is due to the presence of "Sangameswara" temple at Sangam Jagarlamudi village near the vicinity of Vadlamudi Village. The Dairy is located on the Guntur - Tenali state highway at a distance of about 15 km from Guntur and 10 km from Tenali.
