Sanjiv Bajaj

Sanjiv Bajaj (born 2 Nov 1969) is the chairman & managing director of Bajaj Finserv since 2008.[1][2][3][4] He was featured in the India Today Power List 2019 in the ‘Top 50 Power People: The High & Mighty’.[5]

He is the son of Indian industrialist Rahul Bajaj and the younger brother of Bajaj Auto's chairman Rajiv Bajaj.[6][7]

Early life and education

Born into the Bajaj family in 1969, Sanjiv is the great-grandson of founder Jamnalal Bajaj and the younger son of Bajaj Group Chairman, Rahul Bajaj. He completed his schooling at a Catholic convent school run by the Swiss missionaries. Later he pursued his mechanical engineering degree from the University of Pune, masters degree in manufacturing systems engineering from the University of Warwick, and a management degree from Harvard Business School.[8][9][10][11]

He has an elder brother, Rajiv Bajaj, who is heading the Bajaj Auto since 2005.[12]

Sanjiv is married to Shefali Bajaj and has two kids.[11]

Career

In 1994, Sanjiv began his career in Bajaj Auto, where he became the executive director until 2012.[13] During his years at Bajaj Auto, Sanjiv dabbled in various roles, including heading finance, legal & international business functions within the organisation.[14][15][16] He was credited to bring in American-style supply chain management in the Bajaj Auto using General Motors as a model.[17] Currently he is serving as the non-executive director of Bajaj Auto.[18]

After Bajaj Auto's demerger in 2007, Sanjiv took charge as the managing director of Bajaj Finserv.[19][20] He took over additional roles like the chairman of Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance and Bajaj Allianz General Insurance, vice chairman of Bajaj Finance, and managing director of Bajaj Holdings & Investment Limited in the year 2012. By 2017, under his leadership, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance became the 2nd most profitable insurance company in India.[21]

Sanjiv was the deputy chairman of Confederation of Indian Industry's Western Region Council for FY 2018-19.[22] He is also elected as chairman of CII, Western Region for 2019-20. He has been chosen as the vice president of CII for the year 2020-21.[23]

Currently, he is the managing director and CEO of Bajaj Finserv (since 2008) and was appointed chairman in 2020.[24][25][26][27][28][29]
