Scaly-breasted hummingbird
The scaly-breasted hummingbird (Phaeochroa cuvierii) is a species of hummingbird in the family Trochilidae. It is the only species placed in the genus Phaeochroa.

Distribution and habitat
It is found in Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Panama. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest and heavily degraded former forest.
Subspecies
Six subspecies are recognized:[2]
- P. c. roberti (Salvin, 1861) – southeast Mexico to northeast Costa Rica
- P. c. maculicauda Griscom, 1932 – Pacific slope of Costa Rica
- P. c. furvescens Wetmore, 1967 – Pacific slope of west Panama
- P. c. saturatior (Hartert, 1901) – Coiba Island (Panama)
- P. c. cuvierii (Delattre & Bourcier, 1846) – east, central Panama
- P. c. berlepschi Hellmayr, 1915 – north Colombia
