Scot Kerns

Scot Kerns is a Republican representative for House District 23 of the Montana State Legislature.[1][2] He is a Lutheran pastor, having been ordained in the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod after attending Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana.[3][4] He has served as a chaplain in the United States Air Force[5] as well as currently being a chaplain and firefighter with the fire department in Vaughn, Montana.[6] He has been a guest pastor five times on KFUO radio.[7] Kerns was previously a Kansas Wing Chaplain for the Civil Air Patrol, the Official Auxiliary of the US Air Force.[8] He also served as a guest chaplain in the Kansas Senate on March 14, 2017. Kerns currently serves as pastor of St. John Lutheran Church in Fairfied and Zion Lutheran Church in Power, both in Montana[9]

Early life

Kerns was born on September 26, 1986. His family is from Peoria, Illinois. He attended the Randolph-Macon Academy, a military boarding school in Virginia.

Education

Following a year at the United States Air Force Academy Preparatory School, he attended Concordia University Chicago, where he majored in theology and minored in history thereby earning his bachelor of arts degree. He then attended Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he earned his master of divinity degree.[10] He currently attends the University of Montana where he is pursuing a master of business administration degree.

Career

Following graduation from seminary, Rev. Kerns served as pastor of St Paul's Lutheran Church near Lincoln, Kansas for almost 5 years.
