Biography

Imkamp was born 10 March 1925 in Beek, as the son of Alphons Marie Arthur Hubert Imkamp and Marie Wilhelmina Marguerite Pauline Jeanne Vissers.

After attending a gymnasium, Imkamp began studying law at the Catholic University of Nijmegen (KUN), which he cum laude graduated on 4 July 1952. He got his promotion to 'Dr. jur.' at the KUN with a dissertation entitled Prijsdiscriminatie in Amerika en in het E.G.K.S.-verdrag. Hans van Mierlo, who later became Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defense, was one of his fellow students.

He then worked as a trainee notary in The Hague but in 1959 switched to the European Atomic Energy Community in Brussels, organization he has worked for until 1963. He has been a civil servant in the Department of International Payments of the Ministry of Finance (Ministerie van Financiën) from 1963 to 1965, and after that – a senior civil servant in the Main Department for Public Health of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Public Health (Ministerie van Sociale Zaken en Volksgezondheid) from July 1965 to February 1967.

In 1967, Imkamp was elected as a candidate of the Democrats 66 for a member of the Second Chamber of the Dutch House of Representatives and has been a member of parliament until 1977.

He died 2 July 2013[1] in The Hague.
