Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles

Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles (精霊幻想記, Seirei Gensōki) is a Japanese light novel series written by Yuri Kitayama and illustrated by Riv. It began serialization online in February 2014 on the user-generated novel publishing website Shōsetsuka ni Narō. It was later acquired by Hobby Japan, who have published eighteen volumes since October 2015 under their HJ Bunko imprint. A manga adaptation with art by tenkla was serialized online via Hobby Japan's Comic Fire website from October 2016 to February 2017, being discontinued due to the artist's poor health. A second manga adaptation with art by Futago Minaduki has been serialized online via the same website since July 2017 and has been collected in five tankōbon volumes. Both the light novel and second manga have been licensed in North America by J-Novel Club.[2][3] An anime television series adaptation by TMS Entertainment has been announced.

Plot

Amakawa Haruto is a young man who died before reuniting with his childhood friend who disappeared five years ago. Rio is a boy living in the slums who wants revenge for his mother who was murdered in front of him when he was five years old. Earth and another world. Two people with completely different backgrounds and values. For some reason, the memories and personality of Haruto who should have died is resurrected in Rio's body. As the two are confused over their memories and personalities fusing together, Rio (Haruto) decides to live in this new world. Along with Haruto's memories, Rio awakens an unknown “special power”, and it seems that if he uses it well, he can live a better life. But before that, Rio encountered a kidnapping that turns out to involve two princesses of the Bertram Kingdom that he lives in.

Characters

Haruto Amakawa (天川春人, Amakawa Haruto) / Rio (リオ)

An orphaned child that lived in the slums of the Beltram Kingdom capital. He's actually the reincarnation of Amakawa Haruto who died due to an unfortunate accident in Japan. His most striking feature is his black hair which is extremely rare among the population and his androgynous looks which were a combination of his features from his previous and current life making him the most distinguishable amongst the orphans. He has sworn to take a revenge on his mother’s murderer but his fate changed drastically after he awakened to his previous life’s memories as Amakawa Haruto. Their personalities merged into one with Haruto and Rio sharing control over the body and mind. Afterward in a sudden turn of event, he got dragged on a kidnapping incident where he somehow saved the kidnapped princess, As a reward, he was allowed to enroll in the Bertram Kingdom Royal Institute, only to get himself involved in their political disputes, Later, due to false accusation, he became a fugitive before graduation and forced to escape the country. He goes far east to his parent motherland where he tried to find his roots and arrange his personality mess, later on, he return to the west with a new identity by using his previous life name Haruto Amakawa (アマカワ ハルト, Amakawa Haruto?), aiming to take his revenge over his parent's enemies.
Celia Claire (セリア=クレール, Seria Kurēru)
Voiced by: Akane Fujita[4]
Celia was Rio's teacher and his only companion when he was studying in Bertram Royal Academy. During his stay in academy, she would help him whenever she could and Rio would do the same for her. For instance, on the first day of school, she taught him how to read numbers after knowing that he could not read nor write numbers. On the other hand, Rio would help to clean up her laboratory, prepare tea and snack for their tea break and organize her research material (although, Rio helped because he couldn't tolerate Celia's messy room). She gradually fallen in love with Rio and only found out after Rio decided to leave the country when he was framed for attempted murder towards the royalty. When Rio returned to Bertram kingdom to visit her, he found out that Celia was forced to hold a political wedding with Charles Arbour as his seventh wife. Rio saved her by kidnapping her in front of all the guests and Charles Arbour. During her stay with Rio In Rock House, Seria learn how to perceive magic power and some fundamental in spirit magic. When Rio come back from evening party in Galurk kingdom, he offered her to help her meet her parents. Celia is currently in the midst of going to the Resistance along with the 1st Princess, Christina and her royal guard.
Aishia (アイシア)
Voiced by: Yūki Kuwahara[4]
Aisia is Rio's contracted spirit, she is willing to do anything for the sake of Haruto's happiness. Rio knows that she is an upper high class spirit after he met the Spirit of the giant tree, Dryad.
Latifa (ラティーファ, Ratīfa)
Voiced by: Tomori Kusunoki[4]
Latifa was at first enemy of Rio. Duke Huguenot has enslaved and train her to be a merciless assassin by enchaining her with a collar of submission. Fortunately for her, Rio was too strong for her: he vanquished her and put off the collar. Latifa decided to follow Rio in his journey, despite being freed she declared to be alone is more scary than to be a slave. She become his adoptive little sister and extremely attached to Rio. Rio decided to cross the borders between the strahl region and wildness just to let her meet the spirits folks. It is strongly implied that she has romantic feelings for Rio (also due to her past as Suzune in Japan), and she is very jealous of other girls when they interact with Rio (Miharu/Alma/Ouphia/Sara....).
Miharu Ayase (綾瀬美春, Ayase Miharu)
Voiced by: Sayaka Harada[4]
Ayase Miharu is Amakawa Haruto (Rio's previous incarnation)'s 1st love and childhood friend. In volume 4, the reincarnated Haruto, Rio, found Miharu and co. In the forest. Rio was confused of how to interact with her again as his moral values were different from those when he was Amakawa Haruto. He also detested the idea of involving Miharu and those he holds dear into his revenge toward Lucius. This stemmed from the fact that he felt guilty of killing people despite being necessary. Hence, he felt that he is not qualified to be close to her nor is he qualified to attain happiness. Later, Aisia bestowed a dream upon Miharu, a dream about Haruto after they separated and Rio before they reunited again. This spurred Mahiru to approach Rio more aggressively compared to her usual shy/timid personality). Aisia also warned Miharu that Rio is kind but cowardly person as he doesn't want people he loves to enter his life because he may end up hurting them. She also says that if Miharu wants to come to Haruto's side once more there is one opportunity to do so, when he revealed his true identity and told her not run away if that opportunity came. Thanks to Satsuki who give Haruto advice he can accept himself and Miharu once again. She later tells Sendou Takahisa that she is fell in love with Haruto as his past and as Rio, Takahisa attempts to kidnap Miharu but Rio came and saved her.
Christina Beltrum (クリスティーナ=ベルトラム, Kurisutīna Berutoramu)
Voiced by: Sayumi Suzushiro[4]
Rio first meet with princess Christina in the slum as she was searching for her abducted sister Flora. The princess did not know how to interact with common people and slaps him because she believe he kidnap her sister. During the academy time she avoid to talk to him and she doesn't oppose to frame him for the outdoor drill. Rio meet with her at the banquet in the Garlac kingdom presenting the hero Satsuki, despite being watched by the Arbour faction, she secretly thanked him for saving her sister in Amande. After, Rio meet with her again as he accompanies Celia in Cleia. Christina has escaped the Arbour faction and asked him help her for going to Rodania. Seeing the trust between Rio and Celia, she suspects Haruto Amakawa to be Rio, suspicion confirmed by Reiss later.
Flora Beltrum (フローラ=ベルトラム, Furōra Berutoramu)
Voiced by: Kaede Hondo[4]
The second princess of the Beltram Kingdom and younger sister of Christina Beltram. She’s kind by nature, thus loved by the people. Enrolled in the Royal Institute 1 year below Rio.Due to his past history in the Beltram kingdom (false charge against him) Rio is extremely wary of Flora. At the same time he has no grudge to princess Flora as she knows she did not frame him in the outdoor drill, he hoped to never meet with her (volume 7). Flora is the first one from the Beltram kingdom to recognize Rio despite his disguise. During the academy era, Flora was sad seeing the treatment Rio received from the nobles and always wanted to talk to him. Flora has great admiration for Rio.
Roanna Fontaine (ロアナ=フォンティーヌ, Roana Fontīnu)

Roana Fontine is a noble girl from the Duke Fontine house from the Beltram kingdom, a house famous for the good results in magic research and high apttitude for magic of its members, during her childhood she was Christina's and Flora's playmate and friend but even her always kept a respectful distance from her due to the difference in status between them, during her academy time together with Christina she became the class representative and her school grades were always just under Christina's and Rio's. Later she escaped the kingdom together with princess Flora and joined the founded Restoration group as the hero's attendant and now as Hiroaki's fiançee. During her academy time she always kept her distance from Rio, when she met him again as Haruto she respected him as hers and Flora's savior, they treat each other cordially but they aren't close.

Liselotte Cretia is the youngest child and the only daughter of Duke Cretia Family, a prominent Noble household on Galwark Kingdom. She is the top most sought noble daughter in the whole country and can even be considered unreachable flower. She graduated from the royal academy by skipping grade several times, build a business that grow into an international enterprises famous in neighboring countries, become a governor and develop a city that she got from her parents into one of the most prosperous city in the kingdom, all while she still just 15 years old. A smart beautiful girl with duke rank connection, a prosperous city and successful company, all of those would fall to the hand of any man that get her, attracted by that, Liselotte become so sought after she keep receiving marriage proposal from noble from all over the country, even up to the same duke rank. Yet there's no one that manage to successfully take her hand, there's also no news nor rumor about her getting close with any man, she don't even interact with men outside for business or work, that, until she came to the Galwark Hero Introduction party with Haruto as her partner. Liselotte possesses the memories of Minamoto Rikka, a highschool girl from Japan. As Rio, Liselotte had no idea because when they Meet, Rio was wearing a hood with the objective of staying in a low profile because he was a fugitive. While Rio suspect Liselotte Is a reincarnator because of all the modern items Rikka firm sell, though he has no idea that the clerk serving him in front of him is Liselotte herself. As Haruto being a traveller their relationship started in quite stiff, mostly because Haruto was being overly cautious toward anyone from noble society, he has suspicions about Liselotte from Rikka guild due to the availability of modern world items, and he thought Liselotte can be threat if she wants to keep the secrets of the Rikka guild under wrap while in actuality, it is the opposite being Liselotte producing modern item out of loneliness, she hoped to find someone who also reincarnated like her using her guild's modern wrold merchandise as a sign. While Liselotte sees Haruto as an overly capable man, his manner, his ability in conversation, negotiation, his strength, everything about him is something she never seen before in her life as a noble, after she watched him fight in a monster raid, she can't see the full potential of his strength and is awed by him, at first she tried to gain his favor by using her beautiful chamberlain with no resulta, she got more chance to interact with him when they went to the party as a partner, something that created an uproar in the noble society, though when they meet the hero, Satsuki, she has a strange feeling after hearing Haruto pronouncing Satsuki’s name really naturally. After Haruto receive his title, Liselotte is grumbling about how everybody just trying to cut in line while stating that she was the one that found him first, then Aria advice her to stop approaching him with half assed plans and just go for him sincerely as a single woman because that's the only way she think that will somehow has a chance against Haruto. Next day, Haruto visit the Cretia family as farewell before leaving the kingdom, telling the Cretia's his official name, Amakawa Haruto, something that shocked Liselotte big time. Liselotte next meeting with Haruto was when he escort Christina to Restoration, Liselotte took that chance to ask Haruto if he believed in a previous life only to change her mind and pullback her words, she ask once again after returning from restoration only for Haruto to give vague answer and apologize because he has urgent business up north and have no time for that kind of discussion, her next chance was when she heared that Haruto was goin to escort Christina to Galwark and request if she can accompany them, she spent an entire time putting her oker face dealing with Charlotte antics until she got Haruto to spare his time for her alone. Liselotte got time alone with Haruto in his mansion where she once again ask if Haruto believe in a previous life in which he once again answer vaguely, she then told him that she know him in the previous life, something that for once, shocked him, she ask why he keeps answering vaguely, Haruto answer as a precaution that Liselotte is noble, and there's a chance she tries to silence people that know her secret, an answer that truly depressed her. Haruto then ask why she make modern itema, Liselotte simply answers that she's really lonely and wonders if there someone else with the same circumstance as her, Haruto then told her that she is someone he trust the most in Galwark now, and now that he's somehow part of Galwark nobility, he intent to keep their relationship nicely, something that make her really happy.
Sara (サラ)

Silver wolf beastman girl, a descendant of one of the village elders and a head elder to be thanks to possesing a contract with a mid class spirit, a member of spirit folk's village's warrior's group and one of Dryas' priestesses and attendants. When Rio began his life in the village she was ordered to live with him and a Latifa and to help them with whatever thing they may need during that time, as both a way of compensating Rio for the misunderstanding when he entered the village's barrier and for helping Latifa to adapt to her life in the village. At the same time that Rio was learning the right way of using the spirit arts from Ouphia and Ursula she and Alma were in charge of teaching Latifa spirit arts, the spirit folk's language and traditions preparing her for going to normal lessons with the rest of village children. After being defeated by Rio after his mock battle with Uzuma she began to learn martial arts from him. Years later when Rio goes back to the village she, Ouphia and Alma would take care of helping Miharu's group to adapt to the village and later to transport them back to the Stralh region, there they would protect the rock house, Celia, Aki and Masato while Rio is in Galarc's capital after Rio's and Miharu's return she, Ouphia and Alma would help Rio to escort Chtistina's group until Rodania. She also made a crush on Rio.
Orphia (オーフィア, Ōfia)

Alma (アルマ, Aruma)

An elder dwarf girl descendant of one of three current three head elders and a future head elder to be herself due to having a contract with a mid class spirit, a member of the spirit folk's village's warriors group and one of Dryas' priestesses. Anime

An anime television series adaptation was announced by Hobby Japan on November 27, 2020. The series is animated by TMS Entertainment and directed by Osamu Yamasaki, with Yamasaki, Mitsutaka Hirota, Megumu Sasano and Yoshiko Nakamura writing the scripts, Kyoko Yufu designing the characters, and Yasuyuki Yamazaki composing the series' music. Wao World is credited with animation cooperation.[4]
