Shailene Garnett

Garnett was born in Montreal, Canada, to an American father and a Canada-Hungarian mother. Her paternal grandmother was an immigrant from Jamaica with paternal Lebanese and maternal Cuban ancestry. Her maternal grandparents were Hungarian immigrants with Serbian, Romanian and Mongolian ancestry.

Garnett was scouted by her first talent agent in 2009 while working as a kindergarten teacher's assistant in French language elementary school in a small town in Quebec.

Garnett landed her first supporting role playing Krissy B. in Matt Johnson's critically acclaimed feature film The Dirties.[1] That year, Garnett also co-starred in Best Man Holiday starring Taye Diggs, Nia Long, Terrence Howard, and Regina Hall.

In 2016, Garnett co-wrote, executively produced, directed and starred in her first short film 77 Days, about addiction and reconciliation. The film premiered at the Reelworld Film Festival in Toronto and screened at other festivals including Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles, one of the world's largest Black film festivals. 77 Days is available to stream on KweliTV which is on Xfinity, a subsidiary of the Comcast Corporation.[3]

In 2018, Garnett was cast as Iris Beals in CBC Television's legal drama Diggstown.[2] In July 2020 it was announced that Diggstown had been renewed for a third season.

That same year, Garnett joined the cast of the period drama, Murdoch Mysteries [3] as Nomi Johnston
