Srutimala Duara (Assamese: শ্ৰুতিমালা দুৱৰা) is a bilingual writer from Assam, India. She writes in English and Assamese.

Biography

The Sunset and Other Stories (Spectrum, 1998), Waiting for the Last Breath (Spectrum, 1999), The Jhoolan Evening (Spectrum, 2000) are her short story collections in English.[1][2]Traveling with Dreams (Spectrum, 2001), Maya's Party (BR Publishing Corp, 2003) and Ashes in the Seas (BR Pub Corp, 2003) are her English novels. Maan Gahanat (1997) is her short story collection in Assamese.[3] Her books for children are Sadhukathar Desh (1995), Sadhukathar Bagicha (1996), Sadhukathar Tupula (1996) which was selected by National Book Trust as One of the Best Indian Children's Literature published between 1990-98.[4]

She has also written for The Times of India, The Hindu and The Assam Tribune.[5]

Her writings are marked with a strong sense of regional fervour—of Assam and Assamese.

Dr. Srutimala Duara is a writer, academician, and media person.

She has published a number of novels, collections of short stories and articles in book form both in English as well as in Assamese. She has 6 books of children stories in Assamese. 2 books of rhymes are part of text book in a few schools. Her article "A visit to Kaziranga and Sivasagar" is included in class nine text book of "Beehive".

She was awarded the "Naari Shakti Award" by Lions Club in April 2015 and "Woman of the Year" award by International Human Rights Council, Assam Chapter in 2016.

She is an Associate Professor in the department of English, Handique Girls' College, Guwahati.

She is the Secretary of Northeast Writers' Forum, a group of writers writing in English from the seven states of the Northeast.

She was a presenter in Doordarshan Kendra, Guwahati for 20 years. She has acted in television serials and on stage, in more than 50 radio plays.

She is a known artist in the field of recitation; she has recited in many CDs. Her solo CD on recitation is "Ekajoli Kobita". She has recited and acted in two poetry video "Smriti" and "Sagar" put up in YouTube.
