Star Awards 2019 marks the 25th anniversary (or Silver Jubilee) of the Star Awards since it was first awarded in 1994, hence it was subtitled Star Awards 25. The theme for the ceremony is set to capture "The Moment", highlighting the best moments of the local television industries alongside Singapore's biggest talents and audiences as well. This is also the first award ceremony to feature a vocalized version of the Awards' theme tune, titled 《星光》(lit. "Starlight").[1]
Two dramas which received the top two highest nominations, Blessings 2 (eight) and A Million Dollar Dream (six), were tied with the most wins with three; Blessings 2 won the Best Drama Serial, Best Director and Young Talent Awards, while A Million Dollar Dream won three of four acting categories except Best Supporting Actress. No other drama or variety programs won multiple awards, as 12 programs won only one, five of which were from the drama category. This was also the first ceremony in Star Awards history both the Special Achievement and All-Time Favourite Artiste awards, an award replacing in-lieu of the former award, were presented on the same show.

Star Awards 2019 Awards Nominees 红星大奖2019 入围名单
The Nominees were announced on February 8, 2019. Winners are listed first, highlighted in boldface.[4]
The show opens with a cold open containing references to nominations for Best Drama Serial starring Quan Yi Fong (first watching a video snippet from VIC), who time-traveled back to 1918 (referencing Blessings 2) and phone-calling three other characters (from Say Cheese, You Can Be An Angel 3 and A Million Dollar Dream, in order of appearance) before recalling how the main protagonist returning to her own time (by throwing a rock and sunk along with her) and arrived at the stage to begin the show. After the opening, Quan brought references from past ceremonies while asking celebrities (in order of appearance, 1994 (Hosts Chen Shucheng and Yvette Tsui, as well as Fann Wong and Christopher Lee's dialogues), 2014 (Quan tripped while making her way to receive her award) and 2015 (Jeanette Aw's fall before accepting her All-Time Favourite Artiste), followed by Marcus Chin parodying the Love 97.2FM's theme tune while asking whether any celebrities can recall the 1994 theme tune).

Award Trivia
Award Information
- As part of the Star Awards's Silver Jubilee celebrations, this is the first Star Awards ceremony to feature vocals for the ceremony's main theme tune: 《星光》. The song was composed by Jim Lim and originally sung by the SPOP Sing! finalists Daryl-Ann Jansen, Jarrell Ng, Marcus Tay and Karena Yeo. The song was first showcased during the Creative Achievement Awards on March 28. A rendition would later be performed again during the ceremony which would be sung by artistes Zoe Tay, Chen Hanwei, Rebecca Lim and Desmond Tan, and again by the aforementioned singers during the closing.[1]
- It was the first ceremony to feature a female announcer (Lucy Chow 周如珠, a notable show narrator in MediaCorp).
- It was also the first ceremony (and the first live special overall) to be live-streamed on Channel 8's YouTube channel.
- Another short series in commemoration to the celebration was 24 Milestones《回顾红星25》 (lit. Recap of Star Awards 25)- A one-minute long highlight snippet was uploaded daily at midnight on Toggle featuring the best moments of Star Awards starting from the debut year of 1994, from 20 March onwards, beginning a 24-day countdown towards the ceremony.[5]
Consecutive and records in award categories, first in Top 10
- Chen Xiuhuan and Lina Ng won their second Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes since 1994 and 1996, in a gap of 24 and 22 ceremonies, respectively.
- Chen also hold the record of having the longest gap between her two nominations for the Top 10 Most Popular Artistes, with 24 ceremonies (1994 to 2019).
- Chen Shucheng, Hong Huifang and Zhu Houren won their first Top 10 Most Popular Artiste after 19, 13 and 15 nominations, respectively.
- Quan Yi Fong won her third consecutive Best Programme Host. Inclusive of Best Variety and Info-ed host awards (pre-merger in 2015), Quan broke her record on her highest number of hosting wins with six.
- Quan also announced on her acceptance speech that the third season of Fixer was on production at the time during the ceremony.
- Chen Hanwei and Zoe Tay won their Best Actor and Best Actress awards respectively together for the second time after since 2017.
- Chen also broke his record on his highest number of Best Actor wins with six, while Tay was tied with Huang Biren, Ivy Lee and Chen Liping with the most number of Best Actress wins with three.
- Chen revealed on his acceptance speech that A Million Dollar Dream, the drama he played for, was the top-rated drama serial of 2018.
- GeTai Challenge became the fourth variety program to win its second Best Variety Programme award, after City Beat, The Joy Truck and Say It If You Dare.
- Kelvin Tan broke his record as the artist with the highest number of Best Theme Song wins with four.
Changes to award categories
- The Best Short-form Drama Serial and Best Short-form Variety Programme were introduced this year to highlight short series (usually web series from Toggle) that have two or more episodes with a total running time of at least 150 minutes, and the series must tell a complete, non-recurring story, and not have an ongoing storyline or main characters from the actual series.
- The Best Variety Special and All-time Favourite Artiste returned after the categories were not presented last year.
Absence of award categories
- This ceremony was the sixth consecutive ceremony both the Best News Presenter and Best Current Affairs Presenter are not presented, although 8World (renamed from Channel 8 News & Current Affairs in 2019) already had more than ten news presenters as of 2019. Other news-related awards, namely Best News Story and Best Current Affairs Story, were not presented for the second consecutive ceremony.
- Although there was a segment in tribute to Aloysius Pang, who died earlier on 23 January this year, the Honorary TV Award, an award presented to artistes posthumously, was not presented for unknown reasons. Similarly, Rocket Award was also not presented for the third consecutive ceremony. Producer Elaine See later explained that the decision on not returning the Honorary TV Award was not "intentional" and it was different from the circumstances from Huang Wenyong, who he received nominations prior to his passing.[6]
