Background

A 6 ft (1.8 m) bronze statue, set on a 1 ft (0.30 m) base (whose two steps represent the Supreme Court and her climb to get to it), of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the second woman to serve on the United States Supreme Court, has been created.[1][2][3] It will be unveiled outside Downtown Brooklyn's City Point, a mixed-use residential and commercial development, on March 15, 2021, to commemorate Women's History Month and Ginsburg's 88th birthday.[4][5][6][7] It will be installed permanently outside 445 Albee Square.[8][9][10]

Ginsberg was born and grew up in Brooklyn.[11][12] Brooklyn borough president Eric Adams has also declared March 15, 2021, "Justice Ginsburg Day".[13]

The larger-than-life statue was created by the husband-and-wife artist team Gillie and Marc Shattner (who earlier made a bronze bust of her with her approval), as part of their Statues for Equality initiative.[14][15][16]
