Encyclopedia of Popular Music[2]

The album was his second for Gramavision and was recorded while he was in Miles Davis's band[3] or leaving it;[4] he used two musicians from Davis's band: Omar Hakim and Darryl Jones.[5] The album was critically acclaimed,[6] though The Penguin Jazz Guide notes that "even some Scofield devotees seem unpersuaded of its considerable merits".[5]

The album is ranked number 998 in All-Time Top 1000 Albums (3rd edition, 2000).[7]
