Location and history

Sucré was located on Magazine Street in the Garden District in New Orleans. Sucré, French for sugared,[2] was owned by New Orleans restaurateur and former Emeril Lagasse sous chef, Joel Dondis. Dondis partnered with pastry chef Tariq Hanna to open the boutique.[3]

At the time Sucré opened in 2007, it was the first dessert-only restaurant in New Orleans. Sucré served plated desserts with custom garnishes in addition to confections such as flavored marshmallows, artisan chocolate bars, candied pecans, drinking chocolates, as well as hand spun gelato and sundaes.[4]

They operated three retail locations in the French Quarter of New Orleans and Metairie, Louisiana, and shipped the majority of their products anywhere in the US via their website.

Sucré closed last June 17, 2019, and broke the news to their employees by calling them to a parking lot and telling them that they no longer had a job. They were given the option to leave or empty the desserts into the trash.
