Suneet Sharma

Suneet Sharma is the Chairman & 2nd Chief Executive Officer, Railway Board, Indian Railways and the ex-officio Principal Secretary to the Government of India. Sharma is a Special Class Railway Apprentice Officer of the 1978-batch.[2][3]

He was the General Manager of the Eastern Railway from September 2019 to December 2020. Sharma was the general manager of the Modern Coach Factory, Raebareli. He was the also the divisional railway manager of Pune in Central Railway and Chief Mechanical Engineer of Banaras Locomotive Works.[4]

Sharma is credited for introducing various administrative reforms in the Railways, including simplification of the procedure for establishing new benchmarks.

During the 2006 Mumbai train bombings, he was part of the squad which put the suburban network on track within a few hours after the terror attack. During the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, he was part of the squad that managed the aftermath of the attacks at Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Central Railway.

He is credited for increasing the services of the Mumbai Suburban Railway network.[5]

Early life & education

Suneet Sharma is a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kanpur.[6]

He received his professional training in Germany and France and also completed an advanced leadership and management course at Carnegie Mellon University.[7]
