Takao Railway Museum

The Takao Railway Museum (Chinese: 舊打狗驛故事館; pinyin: Jiù Dǎ Gǒu Yì Gùshìguǎn) is a museum in Gushan District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan.[2]

History
Kaohsiung Harbor Train Station

The museum descends from the Kaohsiung Harbor Train Station, built during the Japanese period. The station was then the first railway station in Kaohsiung with the original name of Takow Station (Japanese: 打狗停車場). In 2003, the station building was classified as historical building by the Kaohsiung City Government. On 9 November 2008, the last train was pulled out from the station at 5.30 p.m.[3]

Once the station was closed, the government took over the station building and land on the southern part of the station. On 24 October 2010, the government authorized the Railway Culture Society to enter the station for the opening of the Takao Railway Museum. Currently managed by Kaohsiung Museum of History.

Architecture

The museum building was built in a classic Japanese style with a Chinese hip style roof. Area in front of the station was planted in huge coconut trees.

Exhibition

The museum provides books about railroads and exhibitions of relics from the age of rail.

Transportation

The museum is accessible within walking distance east from Sizihwan Station of the Kaohsiung MRT Orange Line.
