Terri-Denise Cortvriend

Terri-Denise Cortvriend is an American politician, businesswoman, pilot, and yacht captain. She is a member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives. Formerly she was on the Portsmouth School Committee.

Education

For High School she attended North Miami Senior High School. Cortvriend attended Miami-Dade Community College.

Career

She is an owner of an marine plumbing firm she founded in 1989. Before 1989, she worked as a yacht captain. Cortvriend holds a private pilot's license and a USCG Captain’s license. Cortvriend also did a lot of volunteering at the school her daughter attended. In 2004, she ran for the Portsmouth School Committee. She won. She left office in 2008, and came back to the committee in 2012 where she served again, until 2018. In 2018, she ran for the Rhode Island House of Representatives in District 72. In November 2018, she won. Her district includes Portsmouth, Rhode Island and Middletown, Rhode Island. Currently, while in the Rhode Island House, she chairs many committees in her community.

Elections

In 2018, she defeated the incumbent State Representative Republican Kenneth Mendonca. She got 54.6% Mendonca got 45.3%. She is up for reelection in 2020. On July 1, 2020 she announced she was running.
