The Human Voice is a 2020 Spanish-American short drama film written and directed by Pedro Almodóvar, based upon the play of the same name by Jean Cocteau. It stars Tilda Swinton.

In February 2020, it was announced Tilda Swinton had joined the cast of the film, with Pedro Almodóvar directing from a screenplay he wrote based upon play of the same name by Jean Cocteau.[3]

Principal photography was set to begin in April 2020, but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[4][5] Principal photography began on 16 July 2020.[6] Production concluded on 27 July 2020.[7]

Release

The film had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 3, 2020.[8] Shortly after, Sony Pictures Classics acquired American distribution rights to the film.[9] It also screened at the New York Film Festival on September 24, 2020,[10][11] and at the BFI London Film Festival on October 17, 2020.[12][13] It was released in Spain on October 21, 2020, by Wanda Films and Avalon.[14]

Critical reception

The Human Voice holds a 100% approval rating on review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, based on 6 reviews, with a weighted average of 9/10.[15]
