History

The Missouri Bar traces its lineage to a voluntary membership organization called the Missouri Bar Association founded in 1880.[3] This organization included over 1600 members in the 1930s, but excluded Missouri's black lawyers. In 1944, the Supreme Court of Missouri established the organization and changed its name to The Missouri Bar, making it mandatory for lawyers and judges, and racially integrated.

Structure

Bar policy is set by a Board consisting of the organization's officers plus Board members elected by district.

The Bar enforces the rule that Missouri lawyers must complete 15 continuing education credits each year.[4]
