The Northeast Today

TNT-The Northeast Today is a digital news portal and formerly a magazine. It was launched by Kirit Pradyot Deb Burman (also known as P.B.K. Manikya) in August 2007. Its monthly estimated circulation, when in print format was 70,000 copies, making it one of the largest selling magazines in the Northeast Indian market. In 2016, it became a full-fledged digital news portal and it is one of the most viewed websites in the Northeastern region of India.

The magazine and now the website is known for its all-round coverage, and primarily covers politics, sports, cuisine, lifestyle, health, environment, science, and travel.

Its name is still under trademark controversy with one of the publications based out of Noida named Northeast Today Magazine which was launched in 2011, four years after the launch of TNT-The Northeast Today.[1]It also launched its YouTube Channel in the same year in 2016.

Corporate atmosphere

The graphs mapping the growth of TNT-The Northeast Today are indicative of the ambition the brand has to become the leader and the commitment its team displays in achieving this goal. TNT–The Northeast Today magazine, when in print, was the largest circulated and read in the region. Now www.thenortheasttoday.com strives to be the largest read news portal in / from the region.

It is run by a group of ‘Quiet Pros’ whose intense fire to make the portal a success story that few can boast of or replicate, though quite a few attempt.

Acting as the eyes and ears of the region, the team's main aim is to serve the people of the region. Covering topics of relevant importance to the ever-changing complexity of the world at large and region — in particular, current updates, politics, entertainment, culture, food, sports, opinions and a special emphasis to music, which is the soul of the region — are focused on.

Views

The magazine/website has no political bias and is equidistant from all political parties. It has been the voice for the cause of Tibet and against the Maoist movement as well as issues related to the LGBTQIA, women and children.

The magazine has been seen as very supportive for human rights and against large-scale displacement of indigenous people for large projects. The stand for a forest bill rights is very much evident in the magazine. Recently TNT was a partner in the Mega Quiz organised by Tripurainfo.com which encourages participants to know about local knowledge along with happenings the world over. The Northeast Today aptly puts it as "a journey within for the search of knowledge."

Involvement

The Northeast Today has been involved in a lot of youth activities, such as quizzes, debates and seminars, largely because it has a large student and youth base. It is estimated that almost 75% of the readers are under the age of 35.

The magazine has co-partnered a musical show, Eric Martin.[2] TNT was part of the popular White Lion/FireHouse show that attracted over 42,000 fans is Shillong in December 2008.

Lately, the website is venturing into a partnership and has signed an MoU with the Logical Indian website to bring out stories from Northeast India at the national level. The website has also partnered with online portals like Youth Ki Awaz to bring out relevant stories from the region and is in the process of signing MoUs with other portals of National repute.

Aim

The magazine-turned-website aims to see that the Northeast region is taken at par in the national level at all levels. TNT is one of the youngest with the average age of 28 years in the editorial board. The magazine is for the people of Northeast.
