Third-degree relative

Third-degree relatives constitute a category of family members that constitutes a segment of the extended family and includes first cousins, great grandparents and great grandchildren.[1] The term is most commonly used in reference to the amount of genetic overlap that exists between two sets of people, with third-degree relatives sharing approximately 12.5% of their genes.[2] It includes great-grandparents, great-grandchildren, great-uncles, great-aunts , first cousins,[3] half-uncle, half-aunt, half-niece or half-nephew.
