Thishiwe Ziqubu

Thishiwe Ziqubu (born 5 August 1985) is a South African film director, writer and actor.[1] She won Best Actress in a Supporting Role at the 2016 Africa Movie Academy Awards, for her portrayal of Tashaka in the romantic comedy Tell Me Sweet Something.[2] In 2019, she directed episodes of MTV Shuga Down South.

Education

Ziqubu studied scriptwriting and directing after high school. They later attended the African Film and Drama Academy (AFDA), a film school. They also completed an Acting for Film programme at the Los Angeles campus of the New York Film Academy.[1]

Career

Ziqubu made their acting debut in the 2011 drama film Man on Ground, which helped to move their career forward. As a scriptwriter and director, they wrote and directed three independent short films: Out Of Luck, Subdued and Between the Lines.[1] They’ve also written for South African television soap operas Isidingo and Rhythm City and for Is'Thunzi, a drama series. They co-created, wrote (as head writer) and directed a supernatural four-part drama series entitled Emoyeni.

In 2019, they directed episodes of the second season of TV series MTV Shuga Down South.[3]

personal life

She has a daughter named Vangile Ziqubu from her previous relationship in 2014. She met Mandisa Nduna aka King Fiah in a club, she said "yes i directed her in a short film called sina nomakotshana but i liked it at the same time." Between 2017 and 2018 they got married. Later on between 2019 and 2020 they separated. She said "we parted in different ways because we are too different from one another, in good terms. She identifies herself as queer.
