Timothy Blodgett

Timothy Paul Blodgett is an American law enforcement officer who has served as the acting Sergeant at Arms of the United States House of Representatives since January 12, 2021.[1]

Early Life and Education

Blodgett was born in Rochester, New York on June 16, 1966.[1] He attended Buffalo State College where he earned a Bachelors of Arts magna cum laude in political science and philosophy. He later attended American University where he earned a Juris Doctor degree in law in 1992.[1]

Career

Early career

Blodgett was admitted to the New York, District of Columbia, Western District of New York and the Supreme Court bars.[1]

He became a clerk for Associate Chief Administrative Law Judge G. Marvin Bober and for the Department of Labor where he worked on issues related to black lung disease and asbestosis[1] between 1991 and 1993. He worked in various other law firms between 1994 and 2002. He served as Deputy Sergeant at Arms of the U.S. Senate from 2009 to 2021.

Blodgett was sworn in as the acting Sergeant at Arms of the United States House of Representatives on January 12, 2021,[1] following the resignation of Paul D. Irving after the storming of the United States Capitol five days prior.[2] Later the same day, he wrote to all House of Representatives staff that all staff and members of the House of Representatives would be required to undergo security screening before entering the House chamber.[3] He also told members that they must wear masks in the chamber and that they could face ejection for not doing so.[4]

Blodgett lives in the state of Virginia.[1]
