Tolani (musician)

Olawunmi Christy Otedola (born April 21, 1986), professionally known as Tolani, is a Nigerian Singer and Songwriter. She is the first daughter of Nigerian businessman Femi Otedola. She was born to a middle-class Muslim mother before young Femi married Nana Otedola, the mother of Nigerian Disk Jockey and Record Producer DJ Cuppy and Temi. As a graduate of Psychology, she studied at the University of St Andrews Scotland. [1]

Early life

Olawunmi Christy Otedola was born on April 21, 1986 in Lagos, Nigeria. Tolani attended her primary and secondary education in Nigeria before moving to the United Kingdom. during an interview with CNN said she picked interest in music at a very tender age as She began her singing career in the choir.[2] Tolani Otedola's mother is Olayinka Odukoya was reported to be in a relationship with oil mogul Femi Otedola but was rejected by Femi Otedola's mother for being a Muslim and not of the same social status.[3]

Career

Tolani is a songwriter and has released five singles, two of which she featured two top Nigerian musicians, Reekado Banks and Skales. Tenderoni was her first single and it was released in December 2017 in which she featured Skales. The official video was released on 25 February 2018.[4][5] In December 2018, Tolani released her hit song Ba Mi Lo featuring Reekado Banks.[6] It became a major hit and currently has over 2 million views on YouTube. .[7]

Controversy

In April 2020, Tolani, was forced to speak out after her younger brother, Fewa, was described as mentally unstable. Fewa is the youngest child and the only son of the oil mogul. He is rarely seen and has a low presence on social media. She countered the claim of her half brother being mentally unstable. According to her he has a condition called Autism.[8]
