Tomás Armstrong

Thomas Armstrong (1797–1875) was an Irish businessman, financier and politician, who served as a member of the board of the National Bank of the United Provinces of the Rio de la Plata,[1] and as interim director of the Ferrocarril Central Argentino.[2]

Biography

He was born in Garrycastle, Ireland, the son of Thomas Armstrong and Elizabeth Preaulx, belonging to an Anglo-Irish family. He arrived at the Port of Buenos Aires for the first time in 1817,[3] definitively residing in Argentina years later, where he was married to Justa Pastora Villanueva, a Creole born in Buenos Aires, daughter of Pedro Esteban Villanueva, born in La Rioja (Spain) and María Dionisia López Camelo.[4]

Thomas Armstrong died on 9 June 1875, the news of his death was published by the newspaper The Southern Cross.[5]
