Incident

At 12:00 p.m. on January 16, 1958, Brazilian ship Almirante Saldanha, while participating in projects associated with the International Geophysical Year, was preparing to sail from Ilha de Trindade, off the coast of the Brazilian state of Espírito Santo. Among the crew was photographer Almiro Baraúna, who claimed to have captured several photographs of a UFO during the voyage.[1] Investigators, including those associated with the U.S. Air Force Project Blue Book, reported that the incident was a hoax and that the photos had been manipulated.[2][3] Baraúna admitted the hoax in 2010.[4]
