Ulëz
Ulëz is a town and a former municipality in the Dibër County, northern Albania. At the 2015 local government reform it became a subdivision of the municipality Mat.[1] The population at the 2011 census was 1,229.[2] It was once part of the Oher Municipality, which was later divided between Mat and Mirditë. Prime Minister Edi Rama has given protected status to the region due to its huge biodiversity and clean waters. The area recently became defined as Ulza Regional Nature Park. Ulëz lake is a tourist attraction for kayaking due to its scenic gorges and steep high rugged mountain ranges. The Mat river runs through Ulez Westwards. Together with Shkodra, Tropoje, Kukes, Mirdita and Ulez Mat, this region forms the Albanian or South Dinaric Alps. There are several 1000 metre mountain walls that mountain climbers explore. This is an area where Albania's Catholic heritage may be found. A statue to Mother Theresa stands in the centre of the town. Gheg dialect (Northern Albanian dialect) is spoken in this region.
