Umeå School of Architecture

Umeå School of Architecture (abbreviated UMA) was founded in 2009 as the fourth academic school in Sweden to provide a professional degree in architecture. It is part of Umeå University. Unlike the other Architectural Schools in Sweden, UMA has a spoken policy of sustainable development and integrated design, and aims to grow into "an international laboratory of experimental architectural development."[1]

The five-year architectural programme started in fall 2009 at provisionary premises in central Umeå, but subsequently moved to a new building designed by Danish architect firm Henning Larsen Architects,[2] close to the Umeå Institute of Design and the Umeå Academy of Fine Arts at the Umeå Arts Campus.[3] Master's degree programs started in the autumn of 2010. All education is in English.

Bachelor Programme

The School offers a three-year architecture programme leading to a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Architecture.[4]

Master Programme

At launch in 2010, there were two Master's programmes in Sustainable Architecture Production and Immediate Architectural Intervention, leading to a Master's degree (120 credits). These were subsequently replaced by a single Master's degree in Architecture and Urban Design.[5]
