University of Mississippi School of Business Administration

The University of Mississippi School of Business Administration grants undergraduate, MBA, and Ph.D degrees that cover most business fields. If celebrated its centennial year of operation in 2017. In Fall 2018, enrollment is approximately 3800 students, including both undergraduate and graduate students. The School of Business Administrations make up almost one-fifth of the undergraduate enrollment at the University and is the largest business school in Mississippi.

Holman Hall

The School of Business Administration was established in 1917 and was the first business program in Mississippi and the first in the state to receive Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accreditation (in 1946). The School was the first in the state of Mississippi to have an accredited Master of Business Administration (MBA) program. It awarded its first MBA degrees in 1946. Formerly housed in Conner Hall, the School moved to its current location in Holman Hall in 1997.

The School of Business Administration holds the charter of the Rho Tau chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity Inc. The Rho Tau chapter is one of the largest chapters in the world and has gained numerous awards for the accomplishments of its brothers. As a professional fraternity it promotes and fosters the study of business. However, first and foremost, it is a source of brotherhood among students within the University. The fraternity is highly selective, co-ed, and open to students of all-majors.

The School launched its first online degree program, the Ole Miss Online MBA, in January 2006. It was the first online program at the University of Mississippi and the first online MBA in Mississippi. The online MBA Program results in the same degree as the campus MBA Program with the same courses and instructors, but it offers exceptional flexibility to fully employed students with very a competitive cost. In 2018 U.S. News & World Report ranked the online MBA program No. 22 nationally.

  • In the fall of 2012, the MBA program hosted the first Spark Symposium featuring perspectives by visionary speakers including Jim Barksdale and Peter Costa.
  • In 2013, the SECU launched the SEC MBA Case Competition, and Ole Miss MBAs participated in the inaugural competition at The University of Missouri. Award received at competition was Best Q & A in divisional rounds with UM MBA Jenny Urban.
  • The MBA Alumni Board expanded their professional development efforts in the Fall of 2013 to a full series of Professional Development Workshops to include:one on one resume review, mock interviewing day, and a job negotiation workshop in the spring.
  • In 2014, the MBA program held the Spark Symposium with speakers which included Mike Glenn, FedEx Corporation President / CEO FedEx Services and Dixie Carter-Salinas, President, TNA Wrestling.
  • In 2014, Ole Miss MBAs hosted the first UM & Harvard MBAs Networking in the Grove.
  • Dr. Robert Van Ness, MBA 611 professor, won the University's 2014 Distinguished Research and Creative Achievement Award.
  • For the academic year 2015 -2016, Bloomberg BusinessWeek ranked the campus program 76th in the nation.
  • For the academic year 2016 -2017, Bloomberg BusinessWeek ranked the campus program 68th (or 69th) in the nation and # No. 36 among American public universities.
  • In 2016, the PMBA (online) program hit 100 students enrolled and College Choice.net ranked the online program #1 in the nation.
  • In 2016, the Ole Miss MBA program started Ole Miss MBA Graduation Tailgate to celebrate PMBA(online) and campus graduates & their families the eve of commencement.
  • In Spring of 2016, members of the MBA Board worked with UM Foundation to establish the Zach McClendon Assistantship Endowment and in the Fall of 2016, Monique Ma, was named the first recipient. A memorial ceremony was held in 2017 to honor Zach McClendon.
  • In 2017, Ole Miss MBA and Base Camp Coding Academy began partnership during Speaker's Edge. Base Camp students from the community were invited to shadow coaching sessions and paired with an MBA mentor for networking.
  • In 2017, Ole Miss MBA team member, Hamilton Winters, won Best Q & A in divisional rounds at the annual SEC MBA Case Competition at The University of Florida.
  • The MBA Program and the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs partnered in 2017 to offer the first joint assistantship ideal for MBAs with engineering backgrounds.
  • In 2018, U.S. News and World Report ranked the online MBA program No. 22 nationally making, Top 25 Online Program for 3 years in a row.
  • U.S. News and World Report  named Ole Miss MBA in the Top 100 Campus Programs in 2018.
