Economy

In early times, there was a large export of prawns and dried fish from these places. Until a long time ago, coir was also manufactured and marketed. This marketing was done through cooperatives. Then it ceased. Fishing was also an occupation in this area. There are a large number of rivers and streams, which provides waterways for fishing. Copra, coir was also produced here on an industrial basis. Apart from this, sugarcane production and toddy production was also done here extensively. The toddy was sold in jars in boats. Alcohol was known as Tawaram. Agriculture is also prominent in this area. The panchayat has implemented various projects to promote vegetable cultivation in households in the area.[2][3]
