VonHayat School

VonHayat School (Urdu: وون حیات جمات) is located in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan and established by VonHayat Education Sciences. VonHayat School offers preschool education, primary education, secondary education and preparation for the international General Certificate of Education (GCE). Qirtas Foundation is a non-profit trust established in 1997 in Pakistan. The foundation focuses on integrating technology in education.[1][2]

Academics

VonHayat Education is based on a curriculum called 21-CLF (21st Century Learning Framework), a common core and IB inspired framework. The curriculum is built on an inquiry-based philosophy. This means students are encouraged to question, discover and communicate through an interdisciplinary and integrated approach to learning. The inquiry based approach differs greatly from that of most Pakistani schools.[3]

Technology

VonHayat uses Google Apps technology as its core School Intranet platform called VonSite. The school also uses iPads in kindergarten and laptops in junior schools. VonHayat is one of the first schools in Pakistan to use E-books.[4]

STEM education

VonHayat is also one of the few schools in Pakistan offering structured STEM Education program for grades 1-8. STEM program uses consists of educational programming (coding), Robotics, electronic modeling and mechanical modeling.[5]

Enrichment programs

Co-curricular activities are offered during the school day as well as after school and on weekends. Co-curricular activities are categorized under three groups. Students must choose one activity and may change their selection in each term. Enrichment program includes:[6]

  • Sports:

Cricket, tennis, football, squash, table tennis, swimming, taekwondo.

  • School clubs:

Learning support, social entrepreneurship, robotics and electronics, German language, French language, gardening, InfoTech, culinary arts.

  • Arts and creative:

Music and drama, documentary film, art and craft, photography, debate, creative writing, culture and literature.

Academic year

School year at VonHayat begins in August and ends in May. The academic year is divided into four terms (semesters).

Enrollments

Enrollment applications are accepted from December to May for the next academic year.

Scholarships

VonHayat has a scholarship fund to help students from humble backgrounds who could not otherwise afford education at VonHayat. As of 2017, over 30% students were reported as receiving scholarships.[7]
