History

The WKHM callsign has a long Jackson tradition and is based on the names of the original owners of WKHM AM (Fred Knorr, Harvey Hansen, and Bill McCoy). The first WKHM-FM operated on 106.1 and is now WJXQ.

The current WKHM-FM signed on in 1995 and originally programmed easy listening music, one of the last stations in Michigan to program such a format. "Easy Relaxed 105.3" played a mixture of adult contemporary hits, soft oldies, and smooth jazz. The "easy" format was dropped in early 1998 (moving to sister WIBM 1450 AM for a short time until that station went sports) and K105.3 was born.

FM translator

The WKHM-FM HD-2 signal is relayed to an FM translator; the format is Fox Sports Radio.

Programming

The station starts each day with "The All-New Morning Show with Scott Clow and Mallory." On June 3, 2015, the long running "Big Dog in the Morning" show aired its last edition, as the "Big Dog," Jamie McKibbin, took on a new role as general manager of Jackson Radio Works. At that time, Craig Russell began hosting "The Morning Hustle" on the station. Russell is a veteran of several other Michigan radio stations including northern Michigan's WKPK and WFGR in Grand Rapids. After just over a year, Russell left WKHM and midday show host, Scott Clow began hosting "The All-New Morning Show" with co-host Mallory Sullivan. Mallory Sullivan left K105.3 in 2017 and the “K105.3 Morning Show” is now co-hosted by none other than Scott Clow and new member of the K-Crew Jenny Lewis each morning (M-F) from 6-9am.

Jenny Lewis takes over K105.3 from 9am-12pm for your midday broadcast.

Former morning show host Jamie "The Big Dog" McKibbin continues to host during the afternoon hours from 12:00 NOON-3:00pm

J-Rod steps in at 3:00 and stays until 7:00. His show includes the "Duh Story of the Day," which usually involves a story about a dumb criminal, etc.; and "The Drive at Five," where a caller calls in and "blows" (screams, howls, yells, etc.) the "5-o'clock work whistle and wins a prize from Chilango’s Cantina and Grill or Chilango’s Chop House.

Finally, at 7:00, the station airs Zach Sang & the Gang. Zach Sang is based in Los Angeles California. Zach Sang is already a multimedia superstar personality with a new generation of followers. He is a radio prodigy, Nickelodeon personality, social media addict, pop culture junkie… and everyone’s best friend. At just 21 years old, Zach is one of the most recognizable voices in media to people 12-28 years old. His success was self- created at age 14 when he went from grocery store bag boy to an instant internet radio star broadcasting nightly from his parent’s home in Wayne, New Jersey. Zach quickly amassed an online following of 2.6 million teens from coast to coast. Zach has done over 10,000 interviews with major celebrities from Justin Bieber to Miley Cyrus to the mind behind Twitter Biz Stone. Zach also hosted “Zach Sang & The Student Body” which incorporated hit music and aired nightly from 7-9PM on GOOM Radio. Zach served as the creator, executive producer and music director of Zang Radio – the second largest teen radio station in the country. In 2012, Zach, WYD Media and Westwood One launched Zach Sang and The Gang a fresh, new and social show that is available to Top 40 stations nationwide. Since the launch Zach and his friends can be heard live every night by 4 Million+ people, coast to coast, on over 30 Top 40 Radio Stations.
