Zungeru Hydro Power Dam

Zungeru Dam is a 700 megawatts (940,000 hp) hydroelectrical power plant in Nigeria, at the upper and middle links of Kaduna River in Niger State.

The project started in 2013, the power plant is the second biggest hydroelectric dams in Nigeria after the Kainji Dam, making it among the biggest hydroelectric plant in Africa. The dam construction cost about $1.5 billion.[1][2][3]

The Zungeru Reservoir is located at the upstream of the Shiroro Reservoir and started distributing in 2019[4][5]

Dams in Nigeria are Rocks and Concrete. The zungeru power plant is constructed with the Roller Compacted Concret (RCC) technology. the reservoir is located in the upstream of Shiroroh Dam, and at the downstream of Jebba Dam.[6]

Youth protest

Over 1000 youth lead by the youth leader, Bello Sheriff, on the highway of Kontagora-Minna road protest over the lack of deplorable state roads in the area. The protesters banners and postered: We are suffering because of bad roads’ and ‘Power state without power’, the protesters insisting the demands should be done.[7][8][9]

Displaced settlers

The senator David Umaru visit the IDP camp in zungeru, sympathize over the victims for the delay payment. The senator said N2 billion naira was given by federal government to Niger state government for the resettlement of affected people in the community.[10]

The vice president Yemi Osinbajo, on a visit to the Hydroelectric station promises the 500 displaced settlers that are settled in a new location in New Gungu Wushishi with an immediate effect of the payment.[11]
