1995–96 Milwaukee Bucks season

The 1995–96 NBA season was the Bucks' 28th season in the National Basketball Association.[1] During the offseason, the Bucks re-signed free agent and former All-Star Terry Cummings. Early into the season, they traded Todd Day and Alton Lister to the Boston Celtics for Sherman Douglas, and dealt Eric Murdock to the expansion Vancouver Grizzlies for Benoit Benjamin. The Bucks, led by developing superstars Vin Baker and Glenn Robinson were considered a team with playoff potential. However, their struggles continued as they posted a 15-game losing streak in March. The Bucks missed the playoffs for the fifth straight season, finishing seventh in the Central Division with a disappointing 25–57 record. Baker was selected for the 1996 NBA All-Star Game.

Following the season, head coach Mike Dunleavy was fired, but, he was returning to coach to the Portland Trail Blazers replacing P.J. Carlesimo who was also fired after failing to reached the second round for three straight seasons and Carlesimo went to the Golden State Warriors. However, he was involved a choking incident with Latrell Sprewell during practice and Sprewell was suspended for 68 games and he was traded to the New York Knicks for John Starks and two other players and helped the Knicks under head coach Jeff Van Gundy led to the 1999 NBA Finals the first (and only) eighth seed to ever make the NBA Finals. While, Dunleavy will be named NBA Coach of the Year Award in 1999 helped by Jim Jackson, Greg Anthony, Stacey Augmon, Isaiah Rider, Walt Williams, Kelvin Cato, Brian Grant, Bonzi Wells, Detlef Schrempf, Damon Stoudamire, Rasheed Wallace, Arvydas Sabonis, Steve Smith, Scottie Pippen, and Jermaine O'Neal, and reached the Western Conference finals for two straight seasons before he was fired again after the 2001 season and he was replaced by former Philadelphia 76ers player Maurice Cheeks marked the beginning of the era earned the notorious nicknames in NBA history named the "Portland Jail Blazers" in early to mid 2000s with another head coach Nate McMillan and injury-riddled players like draft-bust number one pick Greg Oden and former Rookie of the Year award winner and two-time All-Star Brandon Roy. Lee Mayberry signed as a free agent with the Vancouver Grizzlies, Marty Conlon signed with the Boston Celtics, and Cummings and Benjamin were both released.

For the season, the Bucks added green alternate road uniforms which lasted until 1999.
