Season summary

Kaiserslautern started the season with 3 points deducted for financial irregularities. With the team in danger of relegation, eliminated from the DFB-Pokal by third-tier Eintracht Braunschweig, and elimatined from European football by Czech side Teplice for a second season running, manager Eric Gerets was sacked and replaced with Kurt Jara. The team ultimately finished 15th - worse than last season, but with 4 points between them and the relegation zone again.
