The tournament was originally to be held in United States from 4 to 7 June 2020. On 3 April 2020 the tournament was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[1] On 27 July 2020, CONCACAF announced that the Finals would be held in March 2021,[2] though on 22 September 2020 CONCACAF announced that the tournament was again rescheduled until June 2021.[3]
Format
The Nations League Finals will take place in June 2021 and be contested by the four group winners of League A. The semi-final pairings were determined by the group stage rankings (1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3), and the administrative home teams for the third place play-off and final were announced on 9 March 2020.[4]
The tournament was originally set to take place in Texas over four days, with the first semi-final (which features the host team) on 6 June 2020, the second semi-final also on 6 June 2020, and both the third place play-off and final on 9 June 2020.[4] While the tournament is now scheduled for June 2021 and will remain in the United States, the exact dates and location of the matches are yet to be confirmed.
The Nations League Finals will be played in single-leg knockout matches. In the semi-finals and third place game, extra time will not be played if tied after regulation, and the match will be decided by a penalty shoot-out. In the final, extra time will be played if tied after regulation, and if still tied after extra time, the match will be decided by a penalty shoot-out (Regulations Article 12.11).[5]
