2022 Sukma Games

The 2020 Sukma Games, officially known as the 20th Sukma Games is a multi-sport event that will be held in Johor in March 2021, originally in July 2020, due to COVID-19 pandemic in Malaysia.[1][2] This will be Johor's second time to host the Sukma Games since its first time in 1992.[3][4]

Organisation

Host state

On 15 May 2015, during the Sukma executive committee meeting chaired by Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, the committee jointly awarded Perak and Johor the hosting rights of the 2018 and 2020 Sukma Games respectively.[5]

Venues

In 2016, the government of Johor had started to build new venues to prepare the state to host the games and decided to include all the state's 10 districts. This included a track and field stadium to be built in Mount Austin.[6][7]

Marketing

The official logo of the 2020 Sukma Games is jawi writing graphic of the word ‘Jim’ which representing the state of Johor that resembled a festival torch. It represents Jawi writing as the pride of the people of Johor who still upheld the jawi writing. Gambier and black pepper the natural treasures of the state were depicted in the logo.[8][9]

Mascot

The official mascot of the 2020 Sukma Games is a Malayan tiger named Jimi. He represented bravery and fierceness and also highlighted the characteristics of the Johor Sultanate which was the identity of the state of Johor. He is described as cute and friendly but aggressive and fierce when playing sports.[10][11]
