Akihiro Kaneko (金子 晃大) is a Japanese kickboxer, fighting out of Tokyo, Japan. He is the former Krush 53 kg champion.

As of October 2020, he is the #3 ranked flyweight by Combat Press,[1] and has been ranked in the flyweight top ten since September 2020.[2] He was ranked in the strawweight top ten by Combat Press between May 2019[3] and August 2020.[4]

Kickboxing career

Kaneko made his professional debut during Krush 69, against Fumiya Hata. He won the fight by a third round knee KO.[5]

He fought Taisuke Degai during Krush 82, and won the fight by unanimous decision.[6]

Kaneko was scheduled to fight Taito Gunji for the Krush 53 kg title, during Krush 89. The two of them had previously met in the amateur circuit, with Gunji winning the fight by decision. The fight went into an extra round, after which Kaneko won the title by decision.[7] He made his first title defense four months later, against Junya Weerasakreck.[8] Kaneko won the fight by KO, after a hard knee to the body of Junya in the second round.[9]

He made his K-1 debut during K'Festa 2, being scheduled to fight Shuhei Kumura.[10] Kaneko won the fight by decision, after an extra round was fought.[11]

Following his K-1 debut, he returned to Krush to face Yuta Hayashi.[12] Kaneko won the bout by a unanimous decision.

Kaneko was scheduled to fight Masashi Kumura at K-1 K'Festa 3. He was extremely confident heading into the match, stating: "I want to win by KO, and fight Takei for the title".[13] Kumura would go on to win the fight by majority decision. He was scheduled to fight at the next iteration of K'Festa as well, being scheduled to fight Momotaro Kiyama at K'Festa 4.[14] The event was later rescheduled for March 31, 2021.[15]
