Alex Powell
Alex Powell (born 18 September 2007) is a Jamaican go-kart racer. He is a member of the Mercedes Junior Team.[1]

Career
Karting
In 2015 Powell competed in the Barbados Regional Championship for the first time in a kart race. After that, he also travelled outside the Caribbean to gain more experience. In the 2016 season, he finished third in the Florida Winter Tour in the Micro ROK class. In the same year the Jamaican won the Epcot Challenge. He also competed in the SKUSA Summer Nationals and ROK Cup USA, finishing second in the national championship.
2017 was another busy year for Powell, who competed in a variety of karting championships. He finished third in the Florida Winter Tour, won the Midwest ROK Cup as well as the Epcot Challenge and was champion in the ROK Winter Cup.
The year after he competed in Europe for the first time and won the WSK Final Cup title in the 60 Mini class. Powell also finished third in the SKUSA SuperNationals XXII in the Mini Swift class and third in the Florida Winter Topur, this time in the Mini ROK category.
In the 2019 season the Jamaican competed for Energy Corse and won the ROK Cup Superfinal (Mini ROK) and the 24° South Garda Winter Cup (Mini ROK) with them. Powell also finished third in the WSK Super Master Series (60 Mini), third in the Italian Championship (60 Mini), fifth in the WSK Euro Series (60 Mini) and ninth in the WSK Champions Cup (60 Mini).
In 2020 Powell competed in various OK Junior classes in the karting world, including the WSK Champions Cup and the WSK Super Master Series. He also competed in the FIA Kart European and World Championships, again in the OK Junior category.[2]
Formula One
In April 2019 Powell was officially introduced as a member of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport Junior Team alongside Italian Andrea Kimi Antonelli.[3]
Personal life
Powell was born in Miami, Florida, in 2007 but is of Jamaican descent. His father John is a rally veteran who was successful in the Caribbean and his cousin is sprinter Asafa Powell.
