Amma Makkal Munnettra Kazagam
The Amma Makkal Munnettra Kazagam (transl. Amma People Progressive Federation; abbr. AMMK) is an Indian regional political party in the state of Tamil Nadu. The party was founded by T. T. V. Dhinakaran in Madurai on 15 March 2018 as a breakaway faction of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and V. K. Sasikala assigned the post of president while T. T. V. Dhinakaran assigned the post of general secretary.[2][3][4] He was also elected as national convener by his party members.

History
RK Nagar by-election
In December 2017, Dinakaran contested in RK Nagar by-election and won by a huge margin of 40,707 votes.[5] He became the first independent candidate to win a bypoll in Tamil Nadu and this was the first time in 18 years that a ruling party in the state lost a by-election.[6][7]
Formation
Following the RK Nagar by-election, On 15 March 2018 at a Public meeting in Madurai, TTV Dinakaran launched the party flag and name as "Amma Makkal Munnettra Kazagam".[8] It was set up as a breakaway faction of the AIADMK. In February 2019, Actor Ranjith, resigned the Tamil Nadu state vice-president post in the PMK and joined AMMK to register his protest on the PMK's decision to join an alliance led by the AIADMK.[9] On 28 March, the AMMK was awarded the gift box symbol.[10]
Party flag
The flag is black at the top and red at the bottom with white in the middle with the smiling image of former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu J. Jayalalithaa in the middle.[11][12]
