Armin Hodžić

Armin Hodžić (Bosnian pronunciation: [ǎrmin xôdʒitɕ]; born 17 November 1994) is a Bosnian professional footballer who plays as a forward for Süper Lig club Kasımpaşa, on loan from Fehérvár, and the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team.

Hodžić started his professional career at Željezničar, before joining Dinamo Zagreb in 2014. Four years later, he was transferred to Fehérvár, who loaned him to Kasımpaşa in 2020.

A former youth international for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Hodžić made his senior international debut in 2016, earning 14 caps since.

Club career

Early career

Hodžić came through youth academy of his hometown club Željezničar, which he left in May 2011 to join Liverpool.[1]

In the summer of 2012, Hodžić was sent on a season-long loan to his former club Željezničar.[2] He made his professional debut against Slavija on 23 October at the age of 17.[3] On 7 April 2013, he scored his first professional goal against the same opponent.[4] In July 2013, his loan was extended for an additional season.[5] On 25 September, Hodžić scored his first career hat-trick against Leotar.[6]

Dinamo Zagreb

On 14 May 2014, Hodžić signed a five-year contract with Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb.[7] Because of an injury, he had to wait almost eight months, until 11 February 2015, to make his official debut, in Croatian Cup game against Istra 1961.[8] Two weeks later, he made his league debut against Split.[9] He scored his first goal for the team on 3 March.[10] Hodžić won his first trophy with the club on 2 May 2015, when they were crowned league champions.[11]

He scored his first hat-trick for Dinamo Zagreb against Inter Zaprešić on 25 July 2015.[12]

On 20 October, Hodžić debuted in UEFA Champions League against Olympiacos.[13] Two weeks later, he scored his first goal in the competition against the same opposition.[14]

In March 2017, Hodžić extended his contract until June 2022.[15]

On 4 March 2018, he played his 100th game for Dinamo Zagreb against Slaven Belupo.[16]

Fehérvár

In August 2018, Hodžić was transferred to Hungarian outfit Fehérvár for an undisclosed fee.[17] He made his competitive debut for the team in UEFA Europa League game against Bate Borisov on 20 September.[18] Six days later, he made his league debut against Mezőkövesd.[19] On 31 October, he scored his first goal for the club in an away cup win over Vác.[20] Three days later, he scored his first league goal in a high victory over Paks.[21] Hodžić won his first trophy with the club on 25 May 2019, by beating Honvéd in Magyar Kupa final.[22]

In October 2020, he was loaned to Turkish side Kasımpaşa until the end of season.[23]

International career

Hodžić represented Bosnia and Herzegovina on all youth levels. He also served as captain of the under-21 team under coach Darko Nestorović.[24]

In September 2015, he received his first senior call-up, for UEFA Euro 2016 qualifiers against Wales and Cyprus,[25] but had to wait until 29 May 2016 to make his debut in a friendly game against Spain.[26]

On 12 October 2019, in UEFA Euro 2020 qualifier against Finland, Hodžić scored his first senior international goal.[27]

Personal life

Hodžić is a practicing Muslim; along with international teammates Ibrahim Šehić, Muhamed Bešić, Izet Hajrović, Sead Kolašinac, Edin Višća and Ervin Zukanović he visited a mosque in Zenica during national team concentration.[28]
