Balidhiig

Balidhiig, also known as Balli Dhiig is a town in the Togdheer region of Somaliland, on the border of Somaliland and Ethiopia.[1][2][3][4]

History

The town of Balidhiig is known as base of the Somali National Movement during its armed struggle against Somalia’s dictator Siad Barre. Many SNM veterans hail from Balidhiig, including the Somaliland Minister of Interior Mohamed Kahin Ahmed. The former president of the Republic of Somaliland, Ahmed Mohamed Mahmoud Silanyo, was also raised in this town, and his mother lived there as well.

Demographics

The town of Balidhiig has a population of 30,000 residents.[5] The town is inhabited by the Habr Je'lo sub-clan of the wider Isaaq clan.[6]
