Bengal Institute of Technology (BIT) is a private engineering college located in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. The college was established in the year 2000 with four AICTE approved Courses. It is a part of Techno India Group. The institute is approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and affiliated to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (formerly WBUT).

Campus

BIT Main building

The college has two campuses, one for Biotechnology Department and the other (aka BIT Main Building) for the remaining departments. Both buildings are entirely covered by Wi-Fi facility. The library has a total collection of 34612 books of almost 3436 titles covering a verse area of subjects. There is a student activity center for co-curricular and extracurricular activities.[1]

Academics

Bengal Institute of Technology offers four years Bachelor of Technology courses in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Information Technology (IT), Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) and Bio-Technology (BT). The admission to these programmes is done through the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) and JEE(Main). Currently the institute has a total of 120 seats in CSE, 60 seats in IT, 90 seats in ECE and 30 seats in BT.

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering and Information Technology is the largest department in BIT.

Department of Bio-Technology

The department of Biotechnology offers 4- year B.Tech course in Biotechnology.

Department of Basic Science and Humanities

The Department of Basic Science & Humanities was established in 2000 with the other departments. The department comprises Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Humanities. Since its commencement, the department has imparted quality education and training at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in various areas of Engineering. The infrastructure and lab facilities are being established to provide adequate opportunities for students to learn practical aspect of Basic Science & Humanities.

Central Library

BIT library is divided into departments staffed by both paraprofessionals and professional library staff. BIT Library is life member of Institute of Engineers Kolkata Chapter. It is currently subscribed to 29 hard copy journals including 12 from Institute of Engineers (Springer Publication). The library has 34612 books of almost 3436 titles covering diverse subjects such as sociology, bioinformatics, game theory, and microprocessors.

Ranking

Bengal Institute of Technology ranked 5th in West Bengal, 91st in India among all Engineering Institutes by NIRF, Dept. of Higher Education, MHRD, Govt. of India in 2016. In 2018, it was in the rank band 151 to 200 and in 2020, it has been ranked in the rank band 251 to 300 by NIRF, Dept. of Higher Education, MHRD, Govt. of India.[2] BIT has also been ranked 51st according to the digitalLEARNING National Engineering Ranking 2020.[3]
