Billie Lee Turner (botanist)

Billie Lee Turner (February 22, 1925 in Yoakum, Texas – May 27, 2020 in Round Rock, Texas)[1] was an American botanist and the father of geographer Billie Lee Turner II. He was a professor of botany at the University of Texas at Austin where he also directed the botany research programme and herbarium. He died during the COVID-19 pandemic.[1]

Research

His main interest was spermatophyte plants.[2] He worked extensively on the flora of Mexico. He focused on the composites and legumes. Plants named in his honor include Lophospermum turneri.[3] His last research article was in 2010.[4]
