Background

The beat for the song was given originally not only to Meek, but also to Jadakiss, who released the song "Paper Tags" on his mixtape Consignment with features from Styles P, Wale and French Montana. The Meek Mill version of the song was originally released on his ninth mixtape, Dreamchasers 2 (2012) and on Kanye West's website for free download. The song was later officially released, mastered, via iTunes and Amazon - as was the previous single "Amen" - on September 11, 2012 in the US.

Chart performance

"Burn" entered the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs at number 86 for the week of September 15, 2012.[2]

Music video

The music video was released on October 10, 2012 directed by Dre Films. Gunplay and Ace Hood make cameo appearances in the video.

Remixes

On June 27, 2012, Game released a remix of the song.[3] Rapper Diggy Simmons released his remix on July 21, 2012.[4] On September 3, 2012, American rapper Lil Wayne released a remix of the song via his mixtape Dedication 4.

Accolades

Complex magazine named it the fifth song on their list of the best 50 songs of 2012.[5] Complex also named Big Sean's verse the third best guest appearance of 2012.[6]
