The Parish Council provides a range of services within the Parish including planning, economic development, tourism, footpaths, leisure, facilities, burial grounds and parks. The Council also provides allotments and bus stations. The Council also can provide grants, at their discretion, to local charities that aim to benefit the parish.[1] Services such as education, social services, transport and highways are provided in by Cornwall Council.

History

During the mid to late 19th century the village boosted a large population due to its economic prosperity. This was reflected by the Local Government Act 1894 which established the Calstock Rural District. [2]

The Calstock Parish Council was established in 1934 after Calstock Rural District was abolished, amalgamating the parish with the Rural District of St Germans.[3]

Wards and councillors

The wards of the parish for Parish Council purposes are listed below. Most of these correspond to village or traditional divisions of the parish that would be recognised by local inhabitants.[4]

All parish wards return two or more councillors to the Council, the number of councillors are relatively proportionate to the population of the ward.
