Publication history

The comic was written by Peter K. Hogan and published in October 2001.

Plot

The story takes place during the second world war and features Captain America and Sgt. Fury join forces to take out the Red Skull, who has stolen a mysterious secret weapon but when the Nazi triggers a gateway to the Dark Dimension, Cap and Fury find themselves face-to-face with Dormammu.

Reception

The book was the number 1 highest selling trade paperback in North America upon its release, selling 17,785 copies in August 2001.[4] SuperMegaMonkey of Comics Chronology stated that the art is decently good, but that the story leaves things to desire.[5] The reviewer of THE DAILY P.O.P. on the other hand expressed that the artwork by Leonardo Manco is really stunning and fits the level of drama as Hogan’s script, which is both entertaining and subtle in his opinion.[6]
