Certified Lover Boy is the upcoming sixth studio album by Canadian rapper Drake. It was scheduled to be released in January 2021, but the release date was postponed indefinitely. It will be released through OVO Sound and Republic Records.[1]

Background

In June 2019, Drake teased the album via Instagram, where the caption read: "Album mode".[2] Drake officially announced his sixth studio album just hours before the release of Dark Lane Demo Tapes, scheduled for release in the summer of 2020.[3] In March, during an Instagram live session with OVO Mark, he confirmed to fans that the final version of the leaked song, "Not Around", would be featured on his upcoming album.[4] On July 29, longtime engineer Noel Cadastre revealed that the album is "90% done".[5] On August 14, Drake announced the title of the album.[6]

Release and promotion

On May 1, 2020, Drake went to his Instagram page revealed his upcoming mixtape titled Dark Lane Demo Tapes was coming soon while also revealing a sixth studio album would be released in summer 2020.[7] On October 24, Drake's 34th birthday, he and his record label, OVO Sound, posted a short video announcing the release month and year of the album being pushed to 2021 from its previous summer 2020 release. The video references covers for Drake's previous albums and mixtapes: So Far Gone (2009), Take Care (2011), Nothing Was the Same (2013) and Dark Lane Demo Tapes (2020).[1]

Singles

On August 14, 2020, Drake released the lead single for the album, "Laugh Now Cry Later", featuring American rapper Lil Durk, alongside the official music video.[8]
