International career

Chatchai was called up several times by Thailand's former coach Winfried Schäfer. In 2013, he debuted for Thailand in a friendly match against Bhutan. Chatchai also played in the 2013 King's Cup against North Korea. In 2013 Chatchai was called up to the national team by Surachai Jaturapattarapong to the 2015 AFC Asian Cup qualification. In May 2015, he was called up to Thailand to play in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification (AFC) against Vietnam.

In 2018 he was called up by Thailand national team for the 2018 AFF Suzuki Cup. Before that edition's semifinal against Malaysia, Chatchai was instantly famous when he arrogantly claimed that Malaysia will be harshly beaten against Thailand in the second leg at their home ground, Rajamangala Stadium after a 0–0 draw in Bukit Jalil National Stadium. However, his team got beaten by Malaysia after a 2-2 draw with Malaysia won by 2-2 draw in aggregate with away goal rule applied. Due to his useless arrogant claim, the Malaysian football fans took their revenge on him by declaring him as "Bodoh" and sarcastic "Mimpi indah, Chatchai cincai" which means "Stupid" and "Sweet dreams, moron Chatchai" respectively. As the revenge message were massively take a toll on his social media, he decided to set his private media such as Instagram to "private" to contain his own shame.

Chatchai drew further criticisms from fans alike for his disastrous opening performance of Thailand in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup, which his mistakes caused his side to suffer an unwanted 1–4 defeat to underdog India, leading to poor rating of him. Because of this, he lost his position to a more experienced and leading Buriram United's Siwarak Tedsungnoen, who would gain reputation for his brilliant performance in later matches that helped Thailand to qualify for the knockout stage since 1972.
