Chrysoula Zacharopoulou

Chrysoula Zacharopoulou (born 7 May 1976) is a French gynaecologist[3] and politician of La République En Marche! (LREM) who was elected as a Member of the European Parliament in 2019.[4]

Education and early career

Trained in minimally invasive procedure, Zacharopoulou specialized in endometriosis in Italy and, from 2007, in France. Before entering politics, she worked at the Bégin Military Teaching Hospital in Saint-Mandé, near Paris.[5]

In 2015, Zacharopoulou joined forces with French actress Julie Gayet on establishing Info-Endométriose, a non-profit raising awareness for endometriosis.[6]

Political career

Zacharopoulou became a Member of the European Parliament in the 2019 elections. She has since been a vice-chair of the Committee on Development.

In addition to her committee assignments, Zacharopoulou is part of the Parliament's delegation to the ACP–EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly.[7] She is also a member of the European Parliament Intergroup on Cancer,[8] the European Parliament Intergroup on LGBT Rights,[9] the European Parliament Intergroup on Disability,[10] and of the European Parliament Intergroup on the Welfare and Conservation of Animals.[11]

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Zacharopoulou returned to practicing at the Bégin Military Teaching Hospital in March 2020.[12]
