Curtis Waters

Abhinav Bastakoti[1] (born December 5, 1999[2]), known by his stage name Curtis Waters, is a Nepali Canadian musician and songwriter. Raised primarily in Germany and Canada, he is presently based in Cary, North Carolina, and is known for his 2020 debut single "Stunnin'" featuring Harm Franklin.[3][4][5][6] His debut studio album, Pity Party, was released in October 2020.[7]

Early life

Waters was born in Kathmandu, Nepal on December 5, 1999.[8] He moved to India at a young age,[6] before moving to Germany at age four and then relocating to Calgary, Alberta at age ten.[8][6][9] Bastakoti settled in Cary, North Carolina in 2017 at age seventeen.[1][6] Prior to being signed by BMG, Waters was employed at Tropical Smoothie Cafe and a student at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.[10] Waters has been open about his experience with bipolar disorder and has expressed his desire to be a mental health advocate in Nepal.[10] His stage name originated as an homage to two of his favourite artists: Ian Curtis and Frank Ocean.[1]
