Dean Unglert

Dean Michael Unglert (born April 17, 1991) is an American television personality, travel blogger and podcast host. Unglert received national recognition after appearing as a contestant on The Bachelorette Season 13, where he was eliminated in week 8. Unglert is known for his lifestyle living in a van and for co-hosting the podcast Help! I Suck at Dating with his fellow cast mate from The Bachelorette, Jared Haibon.[1] Prior to his television career, Unglert has worked at StartupTAP, a recruiting consultancy, as its lead recruiter.[2]

Unglert gain attention after appearing on the Bachelor in Paradise Season 4 where he juggled two relationships, with Danielle Lombard and Kristina Schulman. Unglert met his now girlfriend, Caelynn Miller-Keyes on Bachelor in Paradise Season 6.[3]

Early life and education

Unglert was born in Aspen, Colorado[4] to parents Harold "Chip" Unglert and Debra Caroline Bell.[5] Unglert's mother was diagnosed with breast cancer when Unglert was 9 years old. She relapsed when Unglert was 14 years old and passed away shortly after. Unglert was largely left alone from ages 15–18 with inconsistent presence of his father and his siblings, Ross Unglert, Brad Unglert and Skye Unglert.[6][7][8] At the age of 19, Unglert was arrested for underage drinking on 22 December 2010 at 2:51am, and was charged with underage possession of alcohol.[9] Unglert attended Basalt High School and University of Colorado - Colorado Springs, where he graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration and Management.[10] Unglert worked as the Lead Recruiter for StartupTAP in Venice, California since 2015, a company that provides recruiting and consultancy services for startups in California.[11][12]

Reality television

In 2017, Unglert was cast in The Bachelorette Season 13 starring Rachel Lindsay, where he became a fan favorite.[13] He was eliminated after an emotional episode on July 17, 2017 in his hometown, Aspen, Colorado, where Unglert confronted his estranged, Sikh convert father. In the show, Unglert made a controversial comment saying he is "ready to go Black and never come back" during the After the Final Rose special in March. Unglert later posted an apology on Instagram for the comment, saying "I would like to apologize for the other day when a caption and comment were posted that came across as insensitive".[14] In the same year, Unglert participated in Bachelor in Paradise Season 4 where he was criticized for juggling relationships between Kristina Schulman and Danielle Lombard.[15]

In 2018, Unglert participated in The Bachelor: Winter Games, where he met Lesley Murphy and gave her a key to his house. The couple connected due to their shared sad history of losing their moms from breast cancer.[16] The couple later broke up in April 2018 due to long-distance relationship "having to rely on FaceTime and test messages."[17]

In 2019, Unglert returned as a contestant in Bachelor in Paradise Season 6, where he met his current girlfriend, Caelynn Miller-Keyes.[18] Unglert broke up with Miller-Keyes and left the show on week 3 when Unglert decided their lifestyles will not be compatible. He later returned on week 5 and left the show again with Miller-Keyes to start a relationship outside of the show.[19]

Podcast

Unglert co-hosts the podcast, Help! I Suck at Dating with Jared Haibon. They invite guests from the Bachelor franchise such as Katie Morton, Vanessa Grimaldi, Taylor Nolan etc. to discover the secrets to successful relationships.[20]
